Real County Public Library Leakey

Library Services

We try our best to be responsive to the needs of our community. Below is a list of what we currently offer. If you have an idea or suggestion for additional services we could provide to the community please let us know by dropping by the library, sending us a letter or contacting us via email at rcplea@gmail.com.

Circulation Services

Library cards are free and may be used for checking out materials from our collection of adult, young adult and children's books, audio books, DVD's, and  VCRs.  We also contract with Overdrive for delivery of e-Books and audio books.  To obtain a card you need to bring a picture ID and proof of residence to the library and complete an application form.  In most cases, a card will be issued the same day.

Youth and Teen Services

We have a Young Adult section and hope to offer more programs for youth in the community in the near future.  If you have an idea for a program you would like to see implemented please let one of the librarians know or send an email to rcplea@gmail.com.  We are also hoping to set up a Teen Advisor Board to consult on Youth programming and materials purchasing.

Reference Assistance

We are happy to assist you with searches using either our print reference section, TexShare databases available to all patrons or the internet.

Internet and Wi-Fi access

The library offers 10 public service computers and Wi-Fi including a wireless printer.  The 24 hour wireless is accessible from the front and back parking lots even when the library is closed.

Outreach Activities

We offer a Summer Reading Program each year using the themes developed by the Texas State Library.  We coordinate with the school for all elementary grades to have weekly visits to the library during the school year.  During the school year we also offer support for Home School families in the area by providing reading programs, activities and use of the card catalog and internet resources.  Occasionally we also offer courses in computer literacy, using personal devices for accessing electronic books available through the library system,  If you have an interest or ability to teach in other areas the library would be happy to work with you in offering a program of service to the community.  Such areas might include ESL, GED preparation

Community Spaces in the Library

There is an activity room available in the library for use by community non-profit groups.  Currently, we have a chess club that meets in the room every Wednesday afternoon after school. We do also have a board room with white board and a projector for use by community groups as available.  Call the library or come by to check the schedule.
